Lana Del Rey is done with social media. What triggered her to close her private Instagram account?
The 37-year-old Grammy-nominated singer, whose actual name is Lizzy Grant, announced her departure via an Instagram Story on her private Instagram account on Saturday.
Reportedly, the "honeymoon" account served as a confidential online journal for the "Video Games" singer and could only be accessed upon request from fans. The singer frequently posted intimate selfies and photos from her personal life, and she occasionally used Instagram Live to interact with her devoted admirers. "Thank you so much for everything," the start of the announcement reads, posted alongside a photo of the singer with a butterfly on her nose. "Now that Rob's record is out and now you know where I'm touring this account is closing. Good Luck and love u."
Rob is the father of Del Rey. "Hollywood Bowl" appeared on his album Lost at Sea, which was released on Friday. After a series of online controversies, the "Summertime Sadness" singer, who recently released an extended version of her song "Snow on the Beach" with Taylor Swift, quit social media in 2021. The singer was criticized for donning a mesh mask to her book signing during the Covid-19 pandemic and for posting disparaging remarks about her peers in the music industry.
Meanwhile, Rob Grant, the father of Lana Del Rey, released his debut solo album, "Lost at Sea," on Friday, June 9. Grant released the sixth preview of his upcoming album, which features another collaboration with his daughter, called "Hollywood Bowl."
Del Rey begins "Hollywood Bowl" by singing, "I know I'm not Joni Mitchell, but I've got a dad who plays like Billy Joel," a reference to her father's self-taught piano skills. She co-produced the single with Laura Sisk, Zach Dawes, and Jack Antonoff, a frequent collaborator. Prior to "Hollywood Bowl," Rob Grant had released "Setting Sail on a Distant Horizon," "The Poetry of Wind and Waves," "The Mermaids' Lullaby," and "Deep Ocean Swells."
Grant and Del Rey have co-written "four or five beautiful songs" over the past couple of years, one of which was intended for her latest album Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, but Grant wanted it for his own project. In the end, it did not contribute to either endeavor, but it did aid in the development of their working relationship. "Gorgeous song, by the way. It was called 'Sunshine,'" he explained. "I think that song is going to reappear on the next project. It's so beautiful."
After "Sunshine" was shelved, Grant vowed to create a composition of equal caliber with his daughter. He set down at the piano once more to improvise and discovered a "beautiful chord progression" that he knew she would enjoy. Upon hearing it, she penned the lyrics, and it became the album's closing track, "Hollywood Bowl" - in which she compares her father's piano abilities to those of Billy Joel.
