It seems as though just about everyone is doing it but Bay Area rapper Lil' Debbie thinks people who participate in the "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge" may have their priorities in the wrong place, as reported by HipHopDX.
"I don't like it because I don't think you... need attention to donate money," Lil' Debbie said during an interview with the site. "Just donate money. Just do it - because it's right, because you feel like it's right, not because someone calls you out."
Artists including Kendrick Lamar, Justin Bieber, Dr. Dre and Iggy Azalea have participated in the challenge launched July 30 by former Boston College baseball player Pete Frates.
Frates, who suffers from ALS and can no longer speak, started the challenge by posting a video on Facebook in order to raise awareness for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis).
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines ALS, which is often referred to as Lou Gherig's disease, as "a progressive disease that attacks the nerve cells that control voluntary movement." Researchers have not found a cause for ALS and there is no cure for the disease.
While Debbie says the challenge is good in the fact that it helps raise awareness and funds for ALS research but the method used to spread the word is what seems to be problematic for her.
"It's f**kin' sad that that's the type of s**t we have to do for people to know," she said. "It makes me worry. It makes me really worry for our future and our little ones."
