After four years of non-stop begging from her fans, Taylor Swift finally gave in to the demands: make "Cruel Summer" a single along with a music video.
"Cruel Summer" is Swift's song from her 2019 hit album "Lover," which already has several hit singles like "ME!" featuring Brendon Urie of Panic! At the Disco, "You Need to Calm Down," "The Man," and the title track "Lover."
The highly-anticipated announcement comes weeks after the song returned to the Billboard Hot 100. It is the fans' unofficial summer anthem, and it raked in 8.9 million streams with a radio airplay audience impression going up 128% and the downloads sold raising by 18%.
Taylor Swift's 'Cruel Summer'
The resurgence of "Cruel Summer" in the music charts is a happy coincidence for the fans, however, given that Swift is a "Mastermind," some think that this has all been planned out months in advance.
After all, the Grammy Award winner performs it early into her highly-anticipated "The Eras" tour.
As of this writing, the soon-to-be single sits at No. 47, but after receiving the single treatment, news outlets anticipate that the song will soar up the music charts, and might even compete against Swift's newer chart-topping singles like "Anti-Hero" and "Karma" from her 2022 album, "Midnights."
Following the announcement of "Cruel Summer" becoming a single, fans took to social media to express their gratitude and relief, as many thought the song would never "receive the recognition it deserves."
"I don't care that it's four years late, we will be seated," a fan wrote.
"We finally have a good 'Lover' single, I never thought I'd see the day," another joked.
