Britney Spears' hit song "Toxic" recently shocked fans due to the unearthed secrets about the track.

Spears released "Toxic" two decades ago as part of her fourth studio album, "In the Zone." She worked with Bloodshy & Avant who wrote and produced the song and Henrik Jonback and Cathy Dennis, who contributed some of the lyrics of the song.

It recently took the spotlight again after several details regarding the song has been revealed.

Britney Spears "Toxic" Is About THIS British TV Star

Several news outlets, including Daily Mail recently confirmed the fans' discovery that Spears' "Toxic" could be about the British TV star and veterinarian, Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick.

However, it is worth noting that the singer never dated the beloved vet and that its songwriter was the one directly involved with the Channel 4 star.

In The Sun newsletter Pop B**ch, it was noted that Dennis based the song on her relationship with the doctor after they dated in the early 2000s and broke up in 2003.

"It's unlikely you'd have known who he was at the time (unless you had a sick spaniel) but he's better known to most people nowadays as Channel 4's Supervet!" the gossip newsletter said.

Dennis and Dr. Fitzpartrick first met when the songwriter brought her Labrador for a checkup. However, they decided to split the same year "Toxic" was released.

Fans were left shocked after learning about the detail of Spears' hit song, but they were more surprised when they found out that a different singer was originally tapped to perform the track.

"Toxic" Was Created for Janet Jackson

Before tapping Spears to sing the song, Dennis shared the story about the track's production in Sweden. She revealed that the songwriters conceptualized it with Janet Jackson in mind and that she had already had a meeting with the singer after completing the track.

"Eventually, on day seven, which was the day I was flying back to England, I had run out of time," Dennis recalled. "I knew that it was D-Day and I had to sing and that was what I came up with after a lot of editing."

After hearing the whole song, they realized that it was not a match for Jackson so they offered it to Kylie Minogue, whose track "Can't Get You Out of My Head" was also penned by Dennis. They pitched the song for her "Body Language" album in 2003, but she did not record it.
