Garth Brooks spoke about inclusivity at the Billboard Country Live event last week, saying that in his new bar in Broadway, Nashville, all beers will be served. This was a jab at the growing hatred toward transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney after Kid Rock and Travis Tritt initiated a boycott of Bud Light after the beverage giant collaborated with Mulvaney for a marketing campaign.
Since then, conservative, right-leaning country music fans have sided with Tritt and Rock on their sentiments - which prompted Brooks to speak out as an ally.
Garth Brooks Nashville Restaurant
In an interview with Billboard Country Live, Brooks talked about his new bar and restaurant in Broadway, Nashville-"Friends in Low Places Bar & Honky-Tonk,"
According to him, he wanted the bar to be the "Chick-fil-A of honky-tonks." Elaborating more, Brooks has this to say:
"I want it to be a place you feel safe in, I want it to be a place where you feel like there are manners and people like one another. And yes, we're going to serve every brand of beer. We just are," he said.
For the country music icon, it was not their decision to make. Emphasizing that if you are in his restaurant, a rule must be followed: "love one another. If you're an a**hole, there are plenty of other places on lower Broadway."
Since his comments, Brooks suffered quite a backlash for saying such, but he seemed to be unfazed by all of it.
Garth Brooks Reiterated His Inclusivity Stance
Speaking again to Entertainment Tonight, Brooks emphasized the strength of the words that he let out in the now-controversial interview.
"I think if you know Garth Brooks, no matter how long you've known him, [he's] always been inclusive. We're gonna need each other, trust me," the "If Tomorrow Never Comes" singer said. "So I think that, [with regards to] diversity, inclusiveness, I think what you find is our differences are our greatest strengths."
Dylan Mulvaney, Bud Light Issue
Earlier this year, Bud Light partnered with Mulvaney in a marketing campaign, resulting in the transgender influencer receiving a commemorative can with her face on it.
Since seeing the video, many people, including Kid Rock and Travis Tritt, have visibly expressed their frustration with the brand for partnering with her.
