This week saw the release of the hotly-anticipated single "Attention" from Doja Cat, following her smash hit album "Planet Her."

The track and accompanying artwork have stirred up controversy amongst fans - featuring a naked Doja Cat covered in blood.

This follows similarly successful tracks, such as "Kiss Me More" and "Say So," that propelled her to fame.

The response to the creative output of her latest song has been divided among fanbases and celebrities alike.

Lady Gaga praised the track as a "killer" in a social media message, while Azealia Banks blistered the artist with a post accusing them of being "soooo try hard."

Azealia said in her Instagram Story, "I really be wanting to like doja's music but it's all just sooo try hard."

"Her first album was actually cool as hell... it was her own authentic art voice..."

She said, "doja doesn't have the theater training/authentic hunger needed to seamlessly be the master of genre she's trying to be."

Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, Doja Cat's real name, has raised eyebrows leading up to her newest release.

Notorious for pranking and taunting her devoted followers, the 27-year-old is known for making bombastic statements such as wishing to leave pop music altogether or proclaiming that she was "done" with it.

In an interview with Time magazine, the acclaimed Grammy Award-winner announced that her next album would be entirely rap in contrast to her two previous pop projects, which she had called "cash-grabs."

To excite listeners before its launch, she revealed that it would feature tracks like "Hellmouth" and "First of All."

Before the release of her new song, anticipation was created by her Tuesday posting of its cover art - a graphic with blood drops that kept the title hidden.

The pre-save link, though, gave away what the recording was called. Her work on the untitled record promised to be more rap oriented than her past productions.

Doja Cat recently revealed to Variety that she is creating a masculine counterpoint to her third studio album, "Planet Her."

During this interview on February 2023, Doja Cat announced that the sound would focus mainly on hip-hop and R&B genres, notably diverging from the pop nature of its prior. The "Love To Dream" artist has been thriving since the June 2021 release of "Planet Her."

Upon its release, this album skyrocketed to the top spot in New Zealand's charts and broke into the top 10 of a dozen other nations.

Titled after a planet devised by Doja, the record includes collaborations with Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, SZA, Young Thug, and JID.

A remarkable achievement in her longstanding music career, the album spent four weeks at number two on the Billboard 200 chart in the U.S. when she was signed to a recording contract at 17 years old.
