The electronic music festival Beyond Wonderland was struck with a tragedy when it held its first day on Saturday at the Gorge Amphitheater after a gunman fired randomly into the crowd. The mass shooting left two people dead and others injured, according to Variety.
Electronic Forest 2023 Increases Security After Beyond Wonderland Shooting
On Twitter, Electric Forest 2023 sent its condolences to everyone affected by the tragedy that happened during the Beyond Wonderland festival. While the incident made concertgoers anxious about their safety and security, the organizers of the upcoming Electric Forest assured everyone it would intensify its safety measures ahead, during, and after the festival.
The Tuesday post read, "We want to reassure you that HQ works year-round with large-scale event security professionals, including Michigan State Police, and local law enforcement agencies, and FBI, to provide a safe environment for our patrons, staff, and artists."
The event also informed everyone that it would welcome Festival K9 units and skilled handlers to detect firearms from the large crowd despite the "challenging environmental conditions" during the concert.
Electric Forest 2023 issued another statement to remind everyone of the things they should know before attending the show.
What Happened at the Beyond Wonderland?
The new announcements were posted following the fatal mass shooting at the Gorge Amphitheatre campground in Washington.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office shared a Facebook post confirming that it detained a suspect who opened fire at a campground around 8:20 p.m.
Meanwhile, spokesperson for the sheriff's office Kyle Foreman said that the alleged shooter was also injured but still walked away to continue shooting randomly into the crowd until law enforcement officials successfully tracked the suspect down and took them into custody.
The authorities are yet to determine the motive behind the shooting, but Beyond Wonderland has since issued a statement confirming the cancelation of the event's second day.
The event expressed its gratitude to the local authorities and staff who quickly responded to the situation and delivered its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.
Their identities would be publicized within the next few days, according to Grant County Sheriff's Office.
