As he took the stage at Glastonbury on Saturday, Lewis Capaldi announced he would be taking an additional hiatus for his mental health.
The 26-year-old singer with Tourette's syndrome canceled all work obligations earlier this month in order to'rest and recuperate' before his Glastonbury performance. He performed on the Pyramid Stage for the first time in weeks, but announced that he would be taking another hiatus in the coming weeks.
The Scottish superstar explained that supporters may not see much of him for the remainder of the year because he intends to take a leave of absence for his mental health.
Near the conclusion of his performance, he announced to the crowd that he feels like he'll be taking another small break over the next few weeks, so they probably won't see much of him for the remainder of the year. Fans are naturally devastated as they are understanding of his condition.
Lewis has been candid about his struggles with Tourette's, a neurological disorder characterized by a combination of involuntary noises and movements known as tics, which can cause speech and voice abnormalities.
During his Glastonbury performance, Lewis candidly explained why he had taken a three-week hiatus from performing prior to the music festival.
He stated that he took three weeks off because he had been working nonstop since the beginning of the year, and he wanted a break for his head and mental health.
He added that he wanted to come back and perform at Glastonbury because it is so incredible.
Lewis Capaldi struggled with Tourette's symptoms and lost his vocal while singing, prompting him to apologize to the crowds during his Glastonbury performance.
As he coughed and struggled to sing, his devoted fans rallied around him and assisted him in performing his popular songs when he was temporarily unable to sing due to vocal issues.
Lewis insisted on finishing his set despite his difficulties, and the performance ended on an emotional note as the audience sang "Someone You Loved" to him. Lewis walked across the stage and sang snippets of the song while the appreciative audiences sang at the top of their lungs in support of the star.
Many concertgoers also took to Twitter after the performance to express their admiration for Lewis, describing how the final song of his set reduced the audience to tears.
In addition, they insisted the Scottish vocalist had nothing for which to apologize, heaping praise on his "fantastic" performance and praising him for completing his set despite his difficulties.
