Days before 2023 arrived, Jo Mersa Marley was found dead in his car on a parking lot of a Ross Dress for Less. At the time of his passing, the real cause of death of Jo Marley has not yet been revealed.
Almost six months since he was dead, the coroner has finally concluded the investigation and autopsy to determine Jo Marley's cause of death.
Jo Marley Real Cause of Death
According to a Rolling Stone report, Jo Marley died of "acute asthma exacerbation." Apparently, the grandson of Reggae legend Bob Marley was infected with rhinovirus or enterovirus which led to his demise.
Commonly, the symptoms of the said viruses simply present as symptoms like a common cold. The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's Office report also indicated that Marley had a history of asthma, pneumonia, and even bronchitis. Evidence suggests that he had not been taking his medication before his death.
In March 2022, he was seen in a Florida hospital and his medical reports indicated that he had a chest abscess.
Two days before his death, Marley was revealed to had spoken to his mother, saying he was "feeling ill." thinking it was related to his asthma.
The coroner has ruled out that he was injured as the body was free from it. However, he showed signs of congestion, hyper expansion, and even mucus on his airwaves. The 31-year-old musician also had "enlarged glottic tonsils," and discoloration from his lungs, attributed to his smoking habits.
"An acute asthma exacerbation due to viral illness is a common occurrence and considered a non-allergic event. Additionally, chronic smoking of combustible products such as tobacco or marijuana is dangerous in a person with asthma," the report says.

Jo Marley Died Because of Marijuana?
Aside from the indication that he died because of asthma, the coroner also revealed that a toxicology report indicated that there was THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, a chemical in marijuana in Marley's bloodstream. Aside from this, 0.08% of naloxone was found in his body, however, it was still unclear how the drug entered his system.
Born in 1992 in Jamaica, Marley moved to Miami along with his father, Stephen Marley, the son of music icon Bob Marley. He passed away on Dec. 27, 2022.
