Tour buses continue to me a huge hazard for touring musicians as yet another tour has been put on hold following following a bus-related incident. ZZ Top's bassist Dusty Hill required immediate medical attention after falling and injuring his hip Wednesday, according to Rolling Stone.
The band was touring with Jeff Beck but the iconic axeman will only keep three of the previously scheduled dates following the loss of ZZ Top from the tour-the gigs at the Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, NY; Harrah's in Atlantic City, NJ and at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, CT.
"While we are very disappointed to not continue this tour with ZZ Top, our thoughts and best wishes are for Dusty to have a speedy recovery," Beck said in a statement.
As for ZZ Top, the band has formally cancelled all of its dates through September 6, but those with tickets for later dates are encouraged to hang onto them as the band will attempt to reschedule.
"Our disappointment in sidelining the tour with Jeff Beck will be short as the move to reschedule the appearance dates is already in motion," guitarist Billy Gibbons said in a statement. "We'll send up a smoke signal your way when we resume the road duties."
The band has been touring all summer, typical behavior for the road warriors. Top last released a new LP during 2012 with La Futura, which was its first album in nine years. Although there wasn't any talk of recording new music anytime soon, we can only hope that Hill's injury won't slow down the band's touring habits.
