Young Thug released his new album, "Business Is Business" last week, which featured tracks from Drake, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, and even Lil Uzi Vert.
But while, Thugger is busy doing business, the same could be said with his lawyer, Brian Steel, who recently filed a motion to dismiss the RICO charges on his client and other co-YSL Defendants.
Notably, the entire case revolves around the conspiracy to commit RICO charges in Georgia.
Young Thug RICO Charges To Be Dismissed?
In court documents exclusively obtained by XXL Magazine, Brian Steel filed a motion to dismiss the RICO Charges against Young Thug. According to him, the "overt acts" that the prosecution has accused Jeffrey Williams, Young Thug, of, were beyond the statute of limitations for a RICO Charge.
Apparently, the said crimes must have been committed within five years before the actual arrest date. Young Thug, Gunna, and 26 other associates of YSL have been indicted on May 9, 2022.
"Approximately overt act numbers 62 through 191 are alleged to have occurred on a datewithin five (5) years of May 9, 2022, the date of the original Bill of Indictment as well as the re- Indictment," the motion stated. The re-indictment was filed with the Fulton County Clerk of Court on August 5, 2022.
Based on the docs, the 129 other overt acts listed on the indictment were committed within the statute. However, overt acts No. 1 to No. 61 do not fall as it was allegedly committed on an earlier date.
The publication noted that even though this could not completely dismiss the entire case as there are still 129 alleged acts up for judgment; if Steel would be successful in dismissing the 61 cases, it could weaken the prosecution.
"The inclusion of any overt act dated before approximately May, 2017, is other crime evidence barred by the applicable Statute of Limitations and is prejudicial to Mr. Williams and has no probative value. Hence, same must be stricken from this Indictment pursuant to this Special Demurrer/Statute of Limitations Plea in Bar," he continued to say in the motion.
Originally, 28 associates of the suspected Young Slime Life Gang were served with a sweeping indictment in May 2022. However, many of the other associates, including Gunna were offered plea deals in exchange for a commuted sentence.
