Since their farewell performance in 2006 at an NBA All-Star Game, Destiny's Child went on to have their solo careers. Michelle Williams, one-third of the original Big 3 of the group, went on to have limited success down the road.
Compared to Kelly Rowland and Beyonce, Michelle Williams has stayed relatively under the radar for the most part after the group's disbandment. Now, it seems like Williams is finally opening up, looking back on the last few months before they actually bid goodbye as Destiny's Child.
Michelle Williams Blindsided On Destiny's Child Split
Speaking to The Terrell Show, Michelle Williams confessed that the plan for the three of them was to produce solo projects and group projects alternatingly. Pressed what she thought about the last record, Williams did not hold back on her emotions.
Turns out, she didn't want "Destiny Fulfilled" to be the group's last album.
"I didn't want it to be. I don't know if we wanted it to be the last album; but that's the way it is. But if it was up to me, we'd still be flip flopping. We'd still be group, solo, group solo," she said in the interview.
"Destiny Fulfilled" was certified triple platinum by the RIAA and has reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. More so, it birthed the now-iconic songs "Lose My Breath," "Soldier," and "Cater 2 U."
Elaborating more on her being blindsided by the decision, Williams promised that she did not know that it was actually the last album: "I promise you I don't. I'm quite positive that, should we and want to do one, I know the door is open for us to do that."
Destiny's Child Reunion Possible?
On May 2023, Matthew Knowles, Beyonce's father, and the group's manager, revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight that a Destiny's Child reunion could be possible on one condition.
"It's a decision that the ladies would have to make And I would certainly, certainly support that decision as I still manage Destiny's Child. I would love to see that as well," he confirmed to the outlet.
Talking about a possible Destiny's Child new album, Knowles is also optimistic, saying that they wouldn't be one who would toy with the idea as the huge fanbase deserves a surprise.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Kelly Rowland also echoed the teasing.
"I feel like everything is just so planned so we see it before it happens and we see the process right after it happens. It's just a lot, like, we deserve spontaneity, we desire to be surprised and I would hope Destiny's Child would be a pleasant surprise," she added.
