The music world mourns the unexpected death of iconic guitarist and vocalist Rick Froberg.
John Reis, a longtime collaborator with Rick on Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu projects confirmed the news via Instagram Saturday.
"Rick passed away suddenly last night [June 30th] from natural causes. His art made life better. The only thing he loved more than art and rock n roll was his friends."
"He will forever be remembered for his creativity, vision, and his ability to bring beauty into this world. I love you, Rick. I will miss you for the rest of my life."
It all began in the late 1980s when Rick and John joined together to form Pitchfork, a post-hardcore band.
Later, their vision came to life with Drive Like Jehu, an emo rock outfit that released Yank Crime in 1994 through Interscope Records.
By the end of the decade, John had created a new post-hardcore band: Hot Snakes.
After temporarily leaving Drive Like Jehu to concentrate on Rocket From The Crypt during the mid-1990s, John joined forces with vocalist/guitarist Rick for his latest musical venture.
After a four-year break, Hot Snakes reunited in 2018 to record their fourth album, Jericho Sirens.
This marked the comeback of the band which had released three albums from 2000 to 2004; Suicide Violence and Audit in Progress amongst them.
In 2006, John formed his project, Obits.
In 2014, the iconic post-hardcore band Drive Like Jehu underwent a reformation of sorts when Rick Froberg and John Reis got together to begin performing live shows. This included an appearance at Coachella in 2015.
