Lupe Fisco, Common, Jennifer Hudson Team Up On 'Remission' For Stand Up To Cancer [LISTEN]

Lupe Fiasco, Jennifer Hudson and Common recorded an inspirational track called "Remission" for Stand Up to Cancer, a groundbreaking grassroots movement that raises funds to accelerate the pace of cancer research. The song is a remix to Fiasco's "Mission," a song about fighting cancer featured on his upcoming album Tetsuo & Youth.

"Coulda died, but I came out fighting," Hudson sings on the chorus.

"It was like a eureka moment," Fiasco told MTV. "I was listening to the beat in the car and I was like, 'Fighting cancer.' This is the song right here. Once I kind of established that that is what it was gonna be, I just started to pull from personal experiences that I had with people who are fighting cancer; St. Jude's commercials. Just kind of every reference point that I had from a personal point to just kind of a more general point."

He added, "I didn't want it to come across as a sad, make-you-cry song," he said. "I wanted it to be like an uplifting, powerful and almost ratchet."

Fisco's verses tell of a woman going through breast cancer treatment while Common's speaks of his father's battle with prostate cancer.

"Remission" will become available on iTunes September 5. Hudson, Common, and Fiasco will perform the track live during the Stand Up to Cancer telecast on September 5 at 8 p.m. EST.
