The world was eagerly awaiting the launch of "The Idol," an HBO series created by Sam Levinson and The Weeknd.

Upon its release, opinions were divided, with some arguing that the show bears a strong resemblance to the life story of a famous pop star.

Unsurprisingly, this has been met with criticism from all sides.

The recent discussion about the canceled HBO series "The Idol" has prompted many to compare it to Selena Gomez's life experiences.

Numerous viewers of the show feel that there are too many coincidences for it not to be based on her story, and a few have even accused The Weeknd, also known by his birth name Abel Tesfaye, of deliberately copying her life when developing the series.

The unveiling of the trailer for the new show has caused quite an uproar. Audiences have been left confused by the "strange" references to the former Disney child star, with some going so far as to label it a "terrifying" viewing experience.

This led many to believe her ex-boyfriend had been exploiting her.

Jocelyn's comeback is documented in "The Idol" as she comes back from canceling her tour due to suffering a mental breakdown.

During one scene, Jocelyn is seen posing for the cover art of her single. She makes a daring statement by choosing to adorn her hospital bracelet from recovery to wear during this shoot.

Viewers recognized similarities between the show and Selena's "Bad Liar" shoot.

Particularly eye-catching was that both Jocelyn and Selena started as child stars on a well-known children's TV program. Both have since gone on to become successful pop singers in their own right.

Selena is well known for her portrayal of Alex Russo in Disney's "Wizards of Waverly Place," but Jocelyn's previous acting experience remains a mystery that enriches her life story.

Rather than physical abuse, it was the tumultuous nature of Jocelyn and her mother's relationship that impacted her ascent to fame.

Selena has never spoken directly about any mistreatment from her mom, however, their bond is far from perfect.

Selena's family has been vocal about their disapproval of certain aspects of her life, most notably her romance with Justin Bieber and involvement in the film "A Rainy Day in New York" helmed by Woody Allen as director.

On Selena Gomez's "Revival" album cover, she is wearing an identifying hospital band which was taken shortly after her lupus treatment had concluded.

Following this, fans on social media began connecting her hospital experience to that of Jocelyn in a song written by the "Call Out My Name" singer.

The bond between Jocelyn and her personnal assistant had many questioning what was going on.

Many began to think of Selena's friendship with her assistant Raquelle Stevens when seeing them together.

The rumors have been swirling, but there is no official confirmation.

Comparisons between Jocelyn's story and Britney Spears' have been made, though Sam rejects these assumptions and insists the show was not inspired by anyone in particular.

Just before the airing of the finale of "The Idol," people have a lot to say about the theory on social media.

A tweet declared, "This man needs to be thrown in jail for writing The Idol - a weird Wattpad fan fic about The Weeknd and Selena Gomez!"

Another spoke up, expressing their revulsion at The Weeknd's alleged use of Selena Gomez's life as inspiration for his vanity project.

"Finally, someone pointed out that Jocelyn's songs in the movie had an undeniable similarity to those from a Selena Gomez album."
