Selena Gomez may be enjoying one of the year's biggest songs with her remix of Rema's "Calm Down", but this does not mean she cannot set another record altogether. She and Charlie Puth are reportedly the pop reaping the benefits of their 2016 duet "We Don't Talk Anymore," achieving a milestone that Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and other music greats have also achieved.
Reportedly, the music video for "We Don't Talk Anymore" has surpassed 3 billion views on YouTube. The duet served as the third radio single from Puth's 2016 debut album, "Nine Track Mind." When it first came out, it immeditely went on to peak at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, which is a mean feat.
In December 2018, just a little more than two years after the release of the said music video, fans are still loving it. So much so that the MV of the "We Don't Talk Anymore" crossed the 2 billion-view mark on YouTube.
Helmed by Phil Pinto, the video tracks Puth and a former lover as they strive to be separated and live without one other in New York City. The ex-lovers went through a rotation of concerts, parties, and dates with other people, but failed to get each other out of their system.
Sadly, they never take the leap to reach out to one another. Seems like the song has not lost its luster and relevance because five years after, it is still being streamed on YouTube.
It appears that many people are no longer banking on love and taking the leap when it matters.
As said, this is an achievement that Justin Bieber himself has already attained with his single "Sorry." Apart from him, other notable music videos that have reached the 3-billion milestone include Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off", Katy Perry's "Roar", and Puth's "See You Again" with Wiz Khalifa.
In fact, this last song has went beyond the 3 billion mark to date. It already has at least 5.9 billion views and counting.
Selena Gomez and Charlie Puth's collab is certainly not a mistake. But individually, the two are also very successful on their own.
Puth has earned four top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including "Attention" (No. 5) and "We Don't Talk Anymore" (No. 9).
Puth's work has also earned three consecutive top 10 albums in the charts.
Meanwhile, despite having to deal with loads of personal issues and working on her acting career, Gomez's music career is smooth-sailing. So far, Gomez has earned nine top 10 hits on the Hot 100. One of these hits is her sole chart-topper, 2019's "Lose You to Love Me".
Gomez's third solo studio album, "Rare", was the first album released in the 2020s that topped the Billboard 200. Not bad for the pandemic era.
Gomez has recently unfollowed a load of celebrities and raised some eyebrows. Fortunately, insiders said that those who were unfollowed are simply unbothered.
