Many fans have been relying on Spotify whenever their favorite artists release new music as the streaming platform constantly delivers high-quality music from musicians.
Now that there are different social media platforms competing when it comes to video-sharing, it appears that the Swedish-based music streaming app is competing as they reportedly have plans to have a big update on their platform.
According to a Bloomberg article, as reported by Uproxx, Spotify is currently considering to add "full-length music videos to its app."
They also reportedly started doing tests by talking to partners about their proposal and "according to people familiar with the plan, they weren't authorized to speak about it publicly."
As of this writing, Spotify has yet to confirm if the ongoing rumors are true.
Spotify Recent Updates
Per the original story, the music streaming platform have slowly incorporated different gimmicks to their app as artists have a choice to add "canvases" while their music is playing.
These so-called "canvases" are 10-second GIFs that are projected on the user's screen while music plays in the background.
In addition, they also added "clips" that are videos no longer than 30 seconds to give musicians a chance to tell the story about their songs.
Earlier this year, many fans noticed that Spotify is heading in the same direction similar to TikTok as its home screen started to look like the video-sharing app's.
In other updates, Spotify announced in late June 2023 that the platform already has 100,000 video podcasts.
"It has allowed us to connect deeper with our audience, which is so incredible. They can now pick up on our facial cues, see these little skits that we make, and really just have better engagement overall," Gage Adkins and Olivia Noel of the "Girlish" podcast said.
Spotify Price Hike
As of today, Spotify's monthly price costs around $9.99 but it could change anytime soon in the United States as CEO Daniel Ek announced they're considering raising prices but he didn't give an exact amount on how much the company would add.
"I think we have the ability to do that, but it really comes down to those negotiations [with major music industry stakeholders]," he said. (via Billboard)
Despite sharing their plans in April, the streaming platform still has the same price as of July 2023.
