Coco Lee's battle with depression became tougher in the months leading to her death, her family confirmed following her tragic passing. The singer died at the age of 48.
Lee's sisters Nancy and Carol shared social media posts on Instagram and Facebook on Wednesday to confirm her passing days after she attempted suicide at her home over the weekend. She was rushed to a hospital after she was found in her residence, but she died days after falling into a coma despite the medical facility's efforts to rescue and treat her.
Coco Lee's Depression Got Worse Before Death
According to the posts, Lee was diagnosed with depression years ago and had been battling the mental health issue over the past few years. Nancy and Carol wrote that their sister, however, showed a drastic deteriorating condition in the months leading to her death.
The "Before I Fall In Love" singer sought treatment from professionals to fight depression, but her family blamed the "demon insider her" as the culprit that took the better of her.
Lee showed a worrying sign in December in her final Instagram post before her death, in which she opened up about having an unbearable life at times over the past year. She uploaded a photoset to mark New Year's Eve, including a tattoo of the word "love" on her left wrist, "faith" on her arm, and a snap of herself showing a drainage bag in her body.
Her family sent their sincerest gratitude to the medical staff who cared for Lee and tried to save her until her last breath.
"We hope that everyone will not only miss CoCo, but also share her bright smile, treat people with sincerity, and convey kindness and love to everyone around us, and continue CoCo's wish to let everyone around feel her love and happiness," the post read. "Although CoCo stays in the world for not long a time, her rays of light will last forever!"
