Britney Spears' fans and supporters stood by the singer after the public accused her of lying over the slapping incident with Victor Wembanyama's security, and more defended her after the video of the incident was released to the public.
Reports about Spears and the NBA star's security offered contradicting updates as both parties shared their versions of the incident. However, the truth was finally revealed and proved that the singer was not at fault at all.
Britney Spears, Victor Wembanyama's Security Incident Has Contradicting Stories
Spears' fans expressed their fury after the police closed the investigation into the slapping incident between Spears and a member of San Antonio Spurs' security team.
An initial report shared photos of the incident showing the "Toxic" singer trying to ask the basketball player if they could take a photo together. When she tapped on his back, right shoulder, his security team member - who was later identified as the Director of Team Security for the team, Damian Smith - backhanded the singer that immediately knocked her glasses off.
This led Spears to file a police report, but more reports came out afterward and contradicted the initial controversy.
Law enforcement sources first clarified that Smith only defended Wembanyama and had no plan to hurt Spears. The Associated Press cited the police's statement about the singer hitting herself in the face after the security pushed off her hand, supporting it by releasing surveillance footage.
However, a new video released by a news outlet revealed the truth and showed how Spears was indeed struck after she tapped Wembanyama on his back.
After the incident, she opted to go back to her table, where Smith approached her to apologize.
On the other hand, Wembanyama gave another different account regarding the incident and alleged that Spears did not tap him but "grabbed" him instead. He also defended his security by saying that Smith only pushed her away.
"Protect Britney Spears," #IStandWithBritney Surface As Fans Defend Singer
After the emergence of the video showing that Spears shared the truth from the very start, her fans defended her and slammed Wembanyama and his security for attempting to distort the truth.
One wrote, "No real man would ever hit a woman, or anyone for that matter. I hope she's ok. #istandwithbritney."
"NEVER GRABBED HIM. THIS IS WHY WE SAY PROTECT BRITNEY SPEARS!!!! #IStandWithBritney," another penned, while one internet user shared, "ok idc who you are, Britney Spears or not, this is NOT okay. i get that security needs to protect, but resorting to slapping someone with this much force is absolutely ridiculous. also, can Britney ever catch a break!?"
