"Barbie The Movie" isn't just filled with songs performed by some of the biggest artists from the genres of pop and hip-hop, it would also feature rock legends who showcased their guitar skills; find out below how the collaboration happened.
According to Guitar World, Guns N' Roses' Slash and Van Halen's Wolfgang Van Halen both worked on the song "I'm Just Ken" featuring the vocals of Ryan Gosling himself.
Although the track is seemingly reminiscent of an '80s power ballad, "Barbie the Album" producer Mark Ronson revealed that Slash has been the perfect choice for the song. He also noted that he was the one who personally reached out to him for a collaboration.
In an interview with Variety, the producer revealed that Slash has been his "all-time hero" back in the day and there was a moment in his life when the guitarist's pictures were hung up on the wall of his room.
"I sent [Slash] the song and he was like, 'This is a good song... cool, I'll play on it,' He kills it, he plays the solo at the end and the rhythm parts. It's wonderful," he said.
Wolfgang Van Halen Also Personally Invited to Work on 'I'm Just Ken'
The following day after the premiere night of "Barbie the Movie," Wolfgang Van Halen took to his official Instagram account to share that he attended the movie event because he was part of the soundtrack.
In the caption, the musician wrote, "My buddy @iammarkronson hit me up earlier this year needing my 'mammoth guitar sound' and I happily obliged."
Van Halen added that he's honored to contribute his guitar skills to the "hilarious/surreal/heartfelt movie."
Later on, the guitarist shared some details about the piece he did for "I'm Just Ken" in the comment section as he explained that he has a lot of "textural stuff" throughout the film and there were two moments in the movie where he did solos.
