When Billie Eilish was revealed to be the last artist featured on the "Barbie" official soundtrack, people were initially confused; however, now that the music video and song are out, they get it.
The new song is titled "What Was I Made For?" and it reflects the "Barbie" movie plot, where the main character, Barbie, goes out of her magical fairytale-like world of Barbieland in hopes of finding the truth.
Apparently, Eilish had the same experience of feeling uninspired and self-doubt, "Honestly, we were in a period of time where we were both... like through this last winter, we've both been incredibly uninspired," she said in an interview with Apple Music 1's Zane Lowe.
"And we've still been working and trying to make stuff. And honestly, that song was the first thing we'd written in a minute," the singer continued.
"Even though we were coming up with ideas and coming up with this and that, I remember after we wrote that first half, I go, 'I think we still got it.'"
Billie Eilish Had Her Own "Barbie" Moment
The "Ocean Eyes" singer explained that the movie's director, Greta Gerwig, sent a special rough cut of "Barbie" to her and Finneas, her brother and producer, to get a better grasp of the themes and emotions in the movie.
"We were really in a zone of feeling like we lost it and feeling like, man, I don't know if we can do this anymore," Eilish explained.
"Barbie and Greta just pulled it out of me, I don't know. Those first couple lyrics, 'I used to float, now I just fall down,' just came right out."

Barbie Experiences a Mid-Life Crisis
The Grammy Award-winning singer explained how despite writing the song, she never once thought about writing it from her own perspective-but Barbie's.
"I was purely inspired by this movie and this character and the way I thought she would feel, and wrote about that. And then, over the next couple days, I was listening and I was like, girl, how did this ...
"Honestly, and I really don't mean this to come off a conceited way at all, but I do this thing where I make stuff that I don't even know is ... like I'm writing for myself and I don't even know it."
The "Barbie" movie just premiered, as of this writing, and it explores themes of self-doubt and liberation, as well as finding one's true and authentic self.
