Taylor Swift's songs have always been bustling with inspiration. Drawn from real-life encounters and personal relationships, Swifties have been decoding the singer's songs since she came into the scene.
"Sparks Fly" is perhaps one of the most popular songs of Taylor Swift in her bustling discography. This is why fans have also taken a deep dive into who the person behind Swift's iconic song - which fans believe to be country music singer, Jake Owen.
Taylor Swift 'Sparks Fly' About Jake Owen?
According to People Magazine, Taylor Swift fans have fallen into a rabbit hole and pieced together some evidence that the song "Sparks Fly" was about Jake Owen.
Apparently, in the song's liner notes, Swift wrote "Portland, OR," which led fans to believe that it was a place that holds a huge significance in her life. Turns out, it was the city where she and Owen had performed 17 years ago.
Nancy Drew seemed to have taken over Swifties as they even went to the lengths of tracking down Taylor Swift's 2006 MySpace post in October of that year. In the post, Swift revealed that she had an "amazing" night performing live in a Portland bar where she initially opened for Jake Owen's show.
In the same post, she recounted the events of that night when she met Owen, who told her that he was a fan of her young music. Fans believe that the "chat" was a reference to the song's lyrics "falling in love in an empty bar."
It is known to many that "Speak Now" was heavily inspired by Swift's "diaristic confessions" and events growing up as she blossomed to be a woman.
"The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness. I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing ... and living to speak about it," she explained at the time.
Jake Owen Debunks Allegations That 'Sparks Fly' Was About Him?
As the re-recorded version of "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" is projected to debut at the top of the Billboard 200 charts this week, fans have again spiked speculation and interest in what the songs meant for Swift.
Specifically, "Sparks Fly," one of the biggest tracks of the album has garnered significant attention again. Now, Owen finally debunked the allegations that it was written about him to People Magazine.
"It's a great song and the speculation has always been funny to me," Owen admitted. "I'm sure Taylor probably laughs at it all too, but I'm happy to even have my name in the discussion around it."
Meanwhile, Swift has always been tight-lipped about who she draws inspiration from in her works. One thing has not changed for Owen, he remains a fan of Swift, saying that it has been "incredible to see how she's grown as a musician and what a global phenomenon she's become."
