Dolly Parton would much rather she "drop dead" while performing onstage than retire!
In an interview with "Greatest Hits Radio," the 77-year-old country music superstar rejected the notion of retirement, "I always believe that if you've wanted your dreams to come true and you are lucky enough to have that happen, then you've got to be responsible because you gotta keep the dream alive."
Sure enough, the "9 to 5" singer has been living her dream of being a successful singer-songwriter since she released her very first album "Hello I'm Dolly" in 1967.
"And every dream kind of spawns another dream. You can branch off of almost anything that happens and make a business of that as well," Parton continued.
"So it's kind of like a tree with good roots - it's got a lot of limbs and it's also got a lot of leafs. So, why not make the most of it? And I'm not one to sit around and do nothing."
Since her debut studio album, Parton has released almost 50 albums, with a regular roll-out every year or so.
Her most recent drop is "Rockstar," which featured a star-studded tracklist of collaborators.
Dolly Parton Rejects Retirement
"I would never retire. I'll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song onstage someday," the country music superstar said jokingly, albeit she might have been dead serious.
She went on to explain that dying while doing what she loved the most is the only way for her to go-if she had a choice in the matter, of course.
"But as long as I'm able to work, as long as my health is good and my husband is good. I mean, the only way that I would ever slow down or stop would be for that reason. But in the meantime, I'm gonna make hay while the sun shines."
Dolly Parton a Living Legend
Parton is nothing short of a living music legend. According to reports, she is one of the artists with the most awards, accolades, and Guinness record titles of all time.
That of course is not because of sheer luck, but because of her hard work, talent, and perseverance in constantly making new music and just doing her own thing.
Fans could not help but applaud her for choosing to never retire. "Aunt Dolly is truly a legend," a fan wrote.
"True to the craft of music," another added.
"She is such a queen. I love her so much."
