Ice Spice is living the dream already! From being invited by "Vogue" editor-in-chief Anna Wintour to the Met Gala, to having four Billboard Hot 100 hits, and being included in the "Barbie" movie soundtrack - she seemed to have it all!
As she looked back on her beginnings, the young rapper recounted the first meeting she had with Nicki Minaj, a treasured moment she would clearly not forget.
Ice Spice First Meeting With Nicki Minaj
In an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Ice Spice looked back on the first time that she met her idol, Nicki Minaj.
"I was, like, nervous to get there. Once I got there, I was like, 'Okay, I'm chilling.' But then I heard her, like, say something and then I got nervous," Ice Spice recalled feeling.
The duo first worked on Ice Spice's track, "Princess Diana," a song from her extended play "Like...?" which gets a deluxe release this Friday.
"When she hugged me, I started crying... I cried, but I walked away. Like, I didn't say anything to her,. I just feel like, 'Bro, like just the journey.' You know I love Nicki and meeting her was great and everything, but for me, it also just mostly felt like, 'This is a full circle moment.'," she went on.
Ice Spice is one of the hottest rappers in the music industry right now. Not more than a year since her popularity catapulted, she has already collaborated with two music icons - Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift.
Ice Spice Considers Nicki Minaj, Drake As Mentors
Elsewhere in the interview, Ice Spice also revealed that she looks up to both of the Young Money titans.
Drake, who seemed to be on the down low, has been in touch with Ice Spice for some mentoring sessions.
"We talk all the time, and we're always just laughing about some things that go on.I'll ask him, 'What should I do with this? Or how'd you go about this? Or did you ever experience that?'" she continued.
The 23-year-old rapper is seeking advice from Drake for very specific industry questions and business advice.
"I'm not going to give real examples, but he'll tell me, 'I did this, and you should do that, too, because you can.' And I'll be like, 'You're right. Period. I'm going to do that.' It's like coach vibes," she recalled.
As for Minaj, Ice Spice admitted that she is "absorbing advice" from the rap queen and learning from her mistakes for someone who was in the rap scene for so long.
