Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor spoke up about his cancer battle and current condition years after he was diagnosed with the incurable form of the dreaded disease.
The music industry only learned about Taylor's cancer diagnosis when his Duran Duran bandmates read his letter during their induction at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022. According to the acceptance speech letter from the guitarist, he discovered he had an incurable type of prostate cancer four years ago at that time, leading him to miss the important event.
Duran Duran Andy Taylor Shares Update Amid Cancer Battle
Taylor recently appeared in an interview on the Rockonteurs podcast and opened up about positive news about his health. The 62-year-old musician disclosed that he was offered to undergo the life-saving treatment, nuclear therapy, for his prostate cancer following Duran Duran's induction.
After learning about it, he changed his mindset and started expecting to recover from the dreaded illness rather than only expecting to live longer.
"I've been having tests and scans and all kinds of far out science stuff," he said, as cited by Daily Mail. "I have got a wonky gene as well, which was another surprise, but what it is, it's a nuclear medicine, so the stage I'm at, which was stage four like s*** basically, this therapy came into the UK only recently."
The new treatment can reportedly help him get back to his full fitness for at least five years, and it involves nuclear medicine detecting cancer outside the cells and hitting it without affecting the healthy ones.
Amid his health battle, Taylor also shared an update about Duran Duran, saying that the group has been great and that the members are working under the radar over the past months after the induction. Although he missed the important event, he received good news instead upon seeing the offer.
How Andy Taylor Learned About His Cancer
Prior to his treatment, Taylor sat for an interview with People and exclusively disclosed how he learned about his disease.
The musician recalled jogging years ago when he noticed something off at that time. What he thought to be a simple arthritic pain was soon followed by a pair of lumps in his lymph nodes, which prompted him to think about his last PSA test.
After his father died of prostate cancer, Taylor decided to get himself check only to find out that he, indeed, also has the illness.
