BLACKPINK's fate is up in the air, and fans are wondering: will the still continue as a group under YG Entertainment or will they be going their separate ways?
There is a lot of drama, confusion, and even worry surrounding BLACKPINK's contract with their label and talent agency. Their contract is set to expire in two weeks and there still is no news on what the KPOP girl group's next move is.
According to reports, the ambiguity of the group's fate has caused YG Entertainment's stock to drop 7%. Apparently, the issue is not just worrying fans, but investors as well.
BLACKPINK is a four-membered KPOP girl group that trained and debuted under YG Entertainment. They have rose to prominence following their blockbuster music releases like "How You Like That" and "Pink Venom."
They are considered as one of the most popular KPOP groups in the world, arguably coming in second only to BTS.
However, why is it that there is still debate on whether BLACKPINK would renew their contract with YG Entertainment or not?
BLACKPINK's Massive Success in the US
Many fans have had a love-and-hate relationship with the KPOP group's label and talent agency for many years now.
It is undeniable that the company is partly responsible for BLACKPINK's huge success internationally, like their numerous Coachella appearances and performances, world tours, and successful collaborations.
However, fans still think that YG Entertainment is controlling and toxic when it comes to the girls' personal lives.

BLACKPINK Holds the Power
Now that BLACKPINK's future with the company is unsure, fans cannot helo but mock YG Entertainment, "Took them 7 years to admit that they need BLACKPINK more than BLACKPINK needs them."
"Wow, sounds like YG Entertainment really has all their eggs in the BLACKPINK basket. Guess they're hoping to squeeze out a few more bops before the well runs dry," another added.
Out of all the groups under the label, BLACKPINK is currently the most successful and biggest group.
Each member has their own brand deal with luxurious brands like Celene, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Chanel, and more.
"YG knows that they're nothing without BLACKPINK."
This is a fact that YG Entertainment knows very well, as reports say, "YG Entertainment doesn't have any artists who have distinct results other than BLACKPINK. (...) YG Entertainment is currently focusing all its capabilities on renewing the contract."
BLACKPINK could easily transfer to a different label as a group, or pursue solo careers. As of this writing, no one is certain what will happen to the KPOP group.
