Zara Larsson, a pop artist, has claimed that when she first made her attempt at popularity at a young age, music industry bosses "touched her funny" and "abused their power" over her.
The Swedish singer, who rose to stardom at the age of 10, claims that the behavior led her to resolve never to again work in a room with just men. As a result of several #MeToo complaints in recent years, Ms. Larsson made an admission that will increase pressure on the industry. She explained that at the beginning, sometimes it would just feel really uncomfortable.
Being so young, she shared that she believes that many people exploited their positions of authority, made offensive remarks, touched you inappropriately, or said things that made you wonder why they would even say that in the first place.
In an interview with comedian Leigh Francis that will run on his television program Shopping With Keith Lemon on Wednesday night, Ms. Larsson made her admission.
The singer acknowledged that being a young woman in the music business may occasionally be challenging. Undoubtedly, there have been times when she no longer wanted to work with men anymore and just force herself to do so.
However, these days, she just feels like there should be at least one other women in the room. She addd that she would love to record an album with only female musicians.
After winning Sweden's equivalent of "Britain's Got Talent" at age 10, Ms. Larsson, now 25 years old, started a career in music.
She later achieved international popularity after releasing her debut song at age 15. The singer of Ruin Your Life joined the record company TEN Music Group in 2012 when she was just 14 years old. Her debut single, Uncover, went platinum six times in Sweden. Her third studio album, Poster Girl, which debuted in the top ten of the charts in Sweden, Ireland, and the UK, helped her gain international fame a year after signing with Epic Records in the US.
However, Ms. Larsson declared last year that she was taking back ownership of her entire music library from TEN in order to launch her own record label, Sommer House, which would handle her next releases. The celebrity, who will release her fourth studio album later this year, admitted in 2021 that she had to discard songs she had recorded with artists like Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran.
She claimed that her song with Ariana, 29, was supposed to be about anxiousness, but the 'gang voice' prevented you from hearing them. Since 2020, Ms. Larsson has been dating dancer Lamin Holmen, 29, who was a part of her music video "Talk About Love."
