Strikes and unions are fundamental in American labor and society, which is why California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis and dozens of other local politicians are urging Taylor Swift to stand in solidarity with the striking hotel workers in Los Angeles, California.

Swift is on her way to finishing the North American Leg of "The Eras" Tour with 6 shows in Inglewood, California at The SoFi Stadium in the span of 3 weeks.

"I stand with Unite HERE in their fight for a living wage," Kounalakais said in a statement to POLITICO. "And I hope we can use this moment to bring attention to the hardworking men and women who are the engine of our economy."

Moreover in their open letter to Swift, Kounalakis and other signatories are emphasizing that the tour in the area funnels money to hotel owners and other Los Angeles Area businesses in "doubling and tripling" their services because of the heightened number of people in the area.

What Does The Strike Means?

The group wrote that hotel housekeepers and other workers in the area could not afford to live close to their jobs and had to sleep in their cars and risked losing their homes.

"Hotel workers are fighting for their lives," the statement read. "They are fighting for a living wage. They have gone on strike. Now, they are asking for your support. Stand with hotel workers and postpone your concerts."

Led by Unite HERE Local 11, the striking union of workers started July 2 in pursuit of better wages and health care benefits for hotel workers, including high pension contributions and reasonable workloads.

The contract sees negotiations with major hotel chains like Hilton and Marriott, which expired a month ago.

Kounalakis, who attended the "The Eras" Tour in California is the highest profile official to have signed the letter and joined the strike.

As of this writing, Taylor Swift has not yet addressed nor spoken about the strike. Starting June 3 to June 9, Swift is performing at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
