After it was delayed for almost four days, Billboard finally crowned which album emerged at the top last week, in the week ending Jul. 27, 2023.
In a close gap of 500 units, NewJeans' "Get Up" topped the genre-blending album charts in the United States, closing in with the "Barbie" soundtrack.
NewJeans Billboard 200 Debut
According to Billboard, NewJeans landed their first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart with "Get Up." Notably, NewJeans became the second girl group to have reached the top of the charts in less than a year, next to BLACKPINK's "Born Pink" on September 2022.
The last time an all-female girl group reached the No. 1 on Billboard 200 was on 2008 with Danity Kane's "Welcome to the Dollhouse."
Luminate reports that "Get Up," the group's 2nd extended play, amassed 126,500 album units last week. What drove the huge debut was their album sales of 101,500. Streaming only gave 24,500 units for the track, which totals 34.39 million streams on the six-track EP. Track units only comprised 500.
Although this was NewJeans' official debut on the Billboard 200, the Korean group isn't new to the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Half of the EP already charted on the Hot 100, including "Super Shy" which peaked at No. 48 on the same week the album debuted at the top.

'Barbie' Soundtrack on Billboard 200
Meanwhile, the highly-acclaimed "Barbie" Soundtrack fell short of 500 units of being the top album in the country last week.
Luminate reports that the album only raked 126,000 album units this week. So far, this was the biggest week for a full-length theatrical film soundtrack in the past four years. The last one that achieved this huge number was "A Star Is Born" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper - the project clocked in 129,000 in March 2019.
The "Barbie" Soundtrack comprised 70,000 streaming units with 93.81 million official streams from the star-studded compilation of 19 songs from Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, and Sam Smith, among many others. 53,000 are attributed to album sales, with 3,000 for track units. Notably, "Barbie" is the biggest sales week on vinyl for a theatrical film with 33,000.
