Aside from being a talented musician with massive hits like "Like A Virgin," "La Isla Bonita," "Material Girl," and many more, the singer is also known for her controversial performances and risqué outfits on stage. Probably her most notable look to date is her iconic cone bra and many people are still curious about its origin.

Let's take a look at the design process and the history of Madonna's iconic undergarment.

According to Grunge, the cone bra is one of the singer's eye-catching looks from the 20th century as it was fairly new when she wore it during the "Blond Ambition" tour in 1990. The outfit consists of a cone-shaped pointy bra and a corset.

It was designed by a famous fashion designer named Jean Paul Gaultier, but although the entire concept looked modern the first time it came out, the design of the bra has been around for decades before the singer used it.

Maidenform, a famous women's wear brand, introduced the look in the 1940s but it's not as exaggerated as Madonna's.

According to Holr Magazine, the original silhouette was meant to emphasize women's bodies in dramatic wear and not just compressed.

Madonna's Iconic Cone Bra Takes Over the World

Ever since Madonna wore the iconic undergarment while performing her biggest hits on the "Blond Ambition" tour, it has become a symbol in fashion and also the inspiration of other artists.

It was later worn in different takes and silhouettes by artists like Paris Jackson in 2021, Jordan Alexander in the 2021 Met Gala, Juliu Fox in 2022, and many more. (via Grazia)

Per the outlet, the singer's backup dancers also wore the outfits at her concerts regardless if they're a man or a woman as Madonna has been known to break gender stereotypes even though it was controversial back in the day.

The designer, Gauilter, told The New York Times that the bra had been sold for $20,000 at an auction.

Madonna Update 2023

Madonna reportedly has plans to bring back the iconic cone bra on her "Celebration" tour in 2023 but with a more updated design.

However, the show had been postponed due to the pop star's health condition as she spent time in an ICU amid the rehearsals for her shows.

In an update to her followers in early July posted on her official Instagram account, the musician said her current focus is her health and to get stronger.

"I assure you, I'll be back with you as soon as I can," she wrote.
