Lizzo is facing a huge blow to her career because of a scathing lawsuit that was filed against her accusing her of creating a hostile working environment, sexual abuse, religious discrimination, and body shaming, among many others.
Days after the lawsuit was publicized, Lizzo finally addressed the issue, in a notes app statement shared on Instagram.
Lizzo Statement Explored
Lizzo finally broke her silence after being accused of a lot of things in a damning lawsuit by her former dancers.
In a statement shared on Aug. 3, 2023, Lizzo had this to say:
"These last few days have been gut wrenchingly difficult and overwhelming disappointing. My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized. Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous not to be addressed," she wrote.
According to her, she did not break her silence to be "looked at as a victim," but she also stood firm as she knew that she is "not the villain" that people and the media have portrayed her to be.
"I am very open with my sexuality and expressing myself but I cannot accept or allow people to use that openness to make me out to be something I am not," she added.
Elsewhere in the statement, she also defended that she would "absolutely never criticize or terminate an employee because of their weight" as she knows what it feels like to be body shamed on a daily basis.

According to the lawsuit obtained by Rolling Stone, Lizzo was not the only one accused by the three plaintiffs, her dance captain, Shirlene Quigley was also the subject of the damning allegations in the suit.
Ex-Dancers Reacts To Lizzo's Statement
The plaintiffs - Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez - are represented by lawyer Ron Zambrano. In a statement to Page Six following Lizzo's reaction, the plaintiffs said that the singer " failed her own brand and has let down her fans."
They also noted that Lizzo's "dismissive comments" about their case reek of "utter lack of empathy" and are "quite telling about her character."
"While Lizzo notes it was never her intention 'to make anyone feel uncomfortable,' that is exactly what she did to the point of demoralizing her dancers and flagrantly violating the law," the statement furthered.
The plaintiff's lawsuit received backing from other associates, including directors, who previously worked with the Grammy-winning singer.
