Clifton Oliver, a Broadway actor who appeared in "The Lion King," "In The Heights," and "Wicked," passed away yesterday after a protracted illness.

His death was announced on social media by his family and acquaintances.

Yesterday, Roxy Hall of Jacksonville, Florida wrote on Facebook that her baby brother, Clifton Oliver, has had his final curtain call.

He added that the whole unfortunate event was at least tranquil. Richard, Oliver's companion, was chanting Psalm 23 to him as he took his last breath at 3:20 a.m. on that morning.

What Happened to Clifton Oliver?

Hall indicated that Oliver had been hospitalized for six weeks before receiving hospice care.

Oliver attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville before moving to New York to pursue an acting career. In 2010, he joined the replacement cast of In the Heights (opposite Jordin Sparks) in the role of Benny.

He also appeared in replacement casts of Wicked (in the ensemble and as Fiyero) and The Lion King (Simba). In addition, he portrayed Simba in a national tour of The Lion King, appearing in Los Angeles and Las Vegas productions of the enduring Disney musical. Oliver portrayed Motown founder Berry Gordy in the touring production of Motown the Musical. Among his additional regional and touring stage credits are Rent, Ragtime, Pal Joey, Kinky Boots, and The Scottsboro Boys.

In a 2016 interview, Oliver discussed his career, saying, "I love what I do. And the fact that I get to perform for people and do what I love just keeps me motivated and inspired."

He also offered advice to new actors, saying, "You have to be determined, you have to be honest and you have to be respectful of your craft. If you are driven and continue to pursue what you believe in, it will happen and it will come true."
