Deadmau5 is a fan of his car's engines but he doesn't necessarily feel the same respect for the bodies that surround them. Hence when he redecorated his 2013 Ferrari 458 Spider with a paint job featuring the Nyan Cat meme, the prickly Italian sports car company took offense. The company took actual legal action when the DJ moved to sell his customized ride—nicknamed the "Purrari"—issuing a cease and desist to the performer.
"Yeah it was mostly about the custom floor matts and the custom purrari badges. Whatever. It's just a normal ass 458 now. All good," he tweeted.
Ferrari has probably had enough of EDM stars picking up its products, especially after Afrojack bought one, totaled it and replaced it within a 24-hour period. Calvin Harris also managed to break off a key in the ignition of a Ferrari while filming the video for his "We'll Be Coming Back."
The Purrari was special for its instant association with Deadmau5 however so it's a tad sad to see it go. Here's a list of other famous vehicles associated with their owners, ordered roughly by price paid.
Bob Dylan's Triumph 500cc
Dylan was a noted fan of motorcycles, owning several variations of Triumphs during his rise to fame in the '60s. His 500cc is his most famous and most notorious, as it was the vehicle involved in the accident that led the bard to take a lengthy break from touring, seemingly at his high point. The performer claims he injured several vertebrae in the crash but other sources tell a different story, alleging that the performer came home apparently in pain but under his own power. This has led many to suggest that Dylan's staged the accident to justify a break from the road. We have no proof either way, but wouldn't be surprised in the least.
Nick Jonas's 1968 Ford Mustang Cobra
The first thing that comes up on classic car forums when you look into the Jonas Brother's Mustang is general disdain that the guitarist didn't restore the car himself, as is the male midlife crisis thing to do. Either way, we've got to give the man props for opting for a badass muscle car instead of a Ferrari or another go-to luxury name when he came into money. Technically we've got to give the boy version of Jonas credit as he bought the car as soon as he turned 16. Awfully good taste for the average teenage celebrity.
Elvis Presley's 1973 Stutz Blackhawk III
Presley was one of many celebrities obsessed with automobiles, and the museum at Graceland hosts more than 30 of the icon's rides. His particular favorite was the Stutz Blackhawk III. Presley enjoyed the Indiana brand's flagship ride so much that he bought three in 1973: One black, one red and one white. Each "only" cost around $26,500 at the time, but in inflation-dollars $79,000 was a lot to drop. His black Stutz is also renowned by Presley fans for being the last car he drove before his untimely death.
Paris Hilton's Bentley GT Continental
We'll add Paris Hilton to the list, although it pains us, of EDM performers who have destroyed luxury vehicles, although hers wasn't a Ferrari nor did she literally destroy it...just figuratively. Hilton's whip is instantly recognizable because everything is pink. If it isn't a chrome grill frame or a lightbulb, everything visible on the luxury convertible is done up in pink: The paint job, the interior, even the front Bentley logo and most of the grill. Hilton claims the inspiration was a purely pink Barbie Corvette that she owned as a child.
Beyoncé's 1959 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud
Sure, it'd be nice if he put a ring on it, but wouldn't you prefer a classic Rolls-Royce convertible? This must have been Jay Z's thinking when he bought Beyoncé the car for her 25th birthday. Knowles doesn't strike us as the kind to wear many furs but she could sure rock the Cruella DeVille personality with this gem of a ride. The couple would get married less than a year after he gifted this car upon her and it's one of many reasons why we don't buy rumors that a Carter divorce is in the future.
Birdman's Bugatti Veyron
Contrary to what Ace Hood might tell you, one does not simply "wake up in a new Bugatti." A new Mercedes perhaps, but we can comfortably say that a rapper of Hood's status in the game does not have the cash to randomly purchase a $2 million vehicle. In fact, most of the rappers on Cash Money would be wise to save up instead of splurging. After all, as Birdman realizes, the key to buying multimillion dollar vehicles is to own Cash Money Records, not perform. Keep the dream alive Ace.
Jay Z's Maybach Exelero
Maybach is another name thrown around a lot by rappers who have no chance of landing in one. Jay may have bought his wife a car worth an estimated $1 million but he had his cake and is eating it too, in an $8 million Maybach Exelero. It's beyond incredible to consider what might make an Excelero four-times as expensive as a Veyron, but it brings together the best of both worlds. Despite weighing 2.66 tons thanks to its top-of-line luxury features, the car can still get to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 218 mph. The distinct shape of the vehicle earns it the nickname "The Batmobile."
