Ne-Yo ventured into divisive waters by weighing in on gender transitioning jn his musings about the differences between today's youths and those of his upbringing.
On Saturday (August 5), the "Miss Independent" singer was featured on Gloria Velez's podcast, which aired on VladTV.
Ne-Yo revealed that he doesn't believe children should have the choice to select their gender identity.
He said, "If your little boy comes up to you and says, 'Daddy I wanna be a girl,' you just let him rock with that? Where did he get that?"
"If you let this five-year-old little boy eat candy all day, he's gonna do that. Like, when did it become a good idea to let a 5-year-old, a 6-year-old, or a 12-year-old make a life-changing decision? When did that happen? Like, I don't get that. I don't understand that."
Bringing up the subject of gender transitioning, Velez was adamant in her opposition to puberty blockers and "cutting off his pee-pee," to which Ne-Yo responded with: "He can't drive a car, but he can choose to alter his sex?"
On social media, many stood by what Ne-Yo had just shockingly said.
Joey Mannarino said on Twitter, "I have so much respect for Ne-Yo after seeing this interview. Ne-Yo is DONE with the nonsense."
Another person tweeted, "Appreciate him speaking up! You see the real character of people when they do the right thing in the face of adversity."
A third person said, "I hope he does not back walk all this after facing the wrath from that side. We need bold people to say how they feel and not back down to what they believe."
Unfortunately, not all were on Ne-Yo's side.
Expressing her sorrow, one fan wrote, "It's too bad since I usually take Ne-Yo's word when it comes to parenting tips."
Another was more dismissive about the singer, quipping "Who even listens to Ne-Yo? No one pays attention to his views on anything."
A third social media user joined in and said, "Coming from someone who supported R. Kelly you don't care about children Ne-Yo."
Comments on social media were scathing of the "So Sick" singer after his "transphobic" remarks. "Trying to become relevant again, wrong topic!"
One user wrote, followed quickly with: "Mind you this man hasn't been relevant since the early 2000's."
Another person declared: "This made-up celebrity thinks anyone cares about his transphobia."
