August started badly for Lizzo as she was sued by three of her former dancers for many wrongdoings while working with her in the past.
She has since addressed the issue over Instagram but seemed to have no effect on her as the general public has already turned against her.
Lizzo 'Blindsided' By Lawsuit
According to a People Magazine source, Lizzo was "blindsided" by the lawsuit.
"She's been building and building her life and career, and getting achievement after achievement. It blindsided her and her team and is a wakeup call that all of that can be instantly diminished by something like this, just overnight," the source revealed.
Lizzo was revealed to be caught off guard after the lawsuit was publicized and was heavily covered on social media and the media too by various publications and outlets.
Since then, Lizzo has reportedly lost followers on Instagram, with public discourse and opinion turning against her as soon as the lawsuit went online.
Several TikToks and memes have also gone viral, poking fun at Lizzo's allegedly being a fatphobic and weight shamer, which seemed to be a 360-degree turn from what the body positivity causes she has been known to champion for quite some time already.
Lizzo has since addressed the allegations in an Instagram post.
"My work ethic, morals and respectfulness have been questioned. My character has been criticized. Usually I choose not to respond to false allegations but these are as unbelievable as they sound and too outrageous not to be addressed," she wrote in a lengthy statement.
However, many weren't actually convinced by Lizzo's statement, saying that she did not own up to her mistakes among many others.
Accusers Doubled Down On Allegations
Responding to the Grammy-winning singer's statements, the three accusers via their lawyer, spoke to People Magazine.
There is no doubt that Lizzo has built quite a career for herself, and she has certainly achieved a lot. However, her success and popularity does not give her the right to treat her employees with such disrespect in violation of numerous laws," he said in a statement to the publication. We're happy to hear that this has been a wakeup call for her as maybe she can now acknowledge the pain and distress that she caused the plaintiffs."
