Embattled rapper Tory Lanez was supposed to be served with his sentence yesterday, Aug. 7, 2023. However, it was moved today, Aug. 8, 2023. On Monday, it was reported by Legal Affairs Journalist Meghann Cuniff that several people took to the stand to express support for Tory Lanez.
Not everyone was present in court as Judge David Herriford of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County in California read some of the letters he received. Among those, was from rapper Iggy Azalea.
Meanwhile, Twitter, now known as X, is shocked to know this, considering Tory Lanez tarnished image online.
Iggy Azalea Supporting Tory Lanez?
According to Cunniff's tweet, Judge Herriford received more than 70 letters of support for Tory Lanez, including one from Iggy Azalea.
Per Herriford's summary of Azalea's letter, he said that she asks him to impose a sentence that is "transformational, not life-destroying."
Netizens have quickly picked up on this, and many were shocked.
"Isn't that convenient that you chose to speak out about prison reform when it was about Tory Lanez. Where's your support for Megan then?" a user tweeted in response.
Iggy Azalea Advocates For Prison Reform
As soon as the news started spreading like wildfire, Iggy Azalea explained her stance regarding the issue.
She clarified that for the record, she had "not been in touch" with Tory Lanez for months as he had no reason to be. Also, Azalea clarified that she does not "support" anyone on the case as it is a thing "full of oddities."
More so, she "never mentioned" anything in regard to the night when Tory Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in the foot in 2020.
"I was told this was for a judge only, yet it's being discussed in public? I never intended to publicly comment," she added.
Listing her reservations, Azalea also pointed out that she is not one in support of "throwing away ANY one's life if we can give reasonable punishments that are rehabilitative instead."
"I support prison reform. Period," she claimed. "I was asked to write about my genuine experience and the type of punishment I think he deserves: I did. It's not really that interesting but I understand why it's being sensationalized."
Many have expressed their hesitations on Azalea's reasoning, as they mentioned that she never talked about prison reform or any topic in regard online, until when only confronted with the presence of the letter.
As of this writing, the full content of the letter has not yet been disclosed to the media.
