Following allegations that he had an affair with Ariana Grande, Ethan Slater has earned a new job on Broadway.
An planned revival of the Tony Award-winning musical Spamalot, which is based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, has cast the actor. The play revealed Wednesday that Slater, 31, will portray The Historian/Prince Herbert. Christopher Fitzgerald, James Monroe Iglehart, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Jimmy Smagula, Michael Urie, and Nik Walker are also featured in the musical's cast.
As the star of the SpongeBob SquarePants musical, Slater is no stranger to the Broadway stage. He was nominated for a coveted Tony Award and received a Drama Desk Award for the performance. The St. James Theatre will host preview performances of the upcoming Spamalot revival on October 31.
An formal opening night is planned for November 16. In a statement, Eric Idle, whose book and lyrics are featured in the performance, gushed about seeing Spamalot make its Broadway comeback. He expressed his delight at the return of Spamalot to Broadway in a statement given to Playbill, saying it is encouraging to see audiences still enjoying this, the happiest show I've ever worked on," said the author.
It follows allegations that Ethan had an illicit relationship with Ariana Grande while secretly married to Lilly Jay, with whom he has a newborn kid. Just days after it was announced that Ariana, 30, had split from Dalton Gomez, her husband of only two years, the couple's secret romance was made public. Ethan and Ariana reportedly became friends while filming for Wicked, which started in December 2022. Ariana will play Glinda in the Wizard of Oz-inspired musical movie, and Ethan, who previously played SpongeBob in the SpongeBob SquarePants musical, will play the Boq, whose unrequited love for Glinda ultimately leads to his downfall.
Ariana Grande, meanwhile, is carrying on as usual despite the claims of an affair with her Wicked co-star Ethan Slater. She eventually broke her social media silence with a new post. The "Thank U, Next" singer hasn't responded to the reports, and it seems like her PR plan is to wait as long as possible for them to go. Grande teased her fans with a potential re-recording of her first album, "Yours Truly," in an effort to divert attention from the horrific news stories.
Since it was launched on August 30, 2013, the 10th anniversary of her record debut is quickly approaching. Perhaps the rumors about her and Slater will stop if she can refocus her fans on her music. The Instagram carousel appears to show a carefree attitude toward the rumors that are circling around her.
The Instagram carousel revealed Grande recording with an orchestra, while her hands clasped a microphone, and displaying the sheet music to three singles from the Yours Truly album, "Baby I," "Tattooed Heart," and "Daydreamin'." And it looks like her mom is excited by the mysterious post that is likely filled with quite a few Easter eggs. Joan Grande wrote in the comments, "I cannot breathe! I am so excited!" The only written clue the 30-year-old singer gave her fans was in a short caption. She wrote, "almost ten ....... ♡."
