"American Idol" has been a source of drama for years already; whether it was because of a contestant's back story or a very powerful performance, it's almost impossible not to shred a tear or two.
Luke Bryan, a Country star who is known to be a tough guy because of his songs, seemed to have bent his reputation because of the numerous times he became emotional in the course of the show.
Luke Bryan Crying On 'American Idol'
Speaking to People Magazine, Luke Bryan opened up about how he thought he wouldn't get that emotional on television back then when he was offered the gig.
"If you'd have told me I would have cried in front of millions of Americans . . . I'm not there trying to put on this tough-country-guy act, he said. "I'm there to get involved in the emotion of the show. And sometimes what you're trying to say is not going to land perfectly."
Since 2017, Bryan has been on the judge's bench alongside Lionel Richie and Katy Perry.
Bryan also added that when they're behind the bench, they can also tend to give criticism that not everyone would like.
"But for the most part, I know when I sit down behind that desk at American Idol, me and Lionel and Katy are doing our best and coming from a place of love and compassion," he added.
Notably, Luke Bryan has been a mentor for country artists who have graced the "American Idol" stage.
"American Idol" Season 19 Chayce Beckham is Bryan's opening act for his "Country On Tour." Notably, contestants like HunterGirl, Colin Stough, Noah Thompson, and Gabby Barrett have also sought the help of Bryan in terms of guidance in their respective music careers after their competition.
Bryan, Richie, Perry, and even host Ryan Seacrest are all returning for Season 22 in 2024.
Luke Bryan Defends Katy Perry From Haters
The judges have been targeted with online criticism about their comments on many contestants. Specifically, Katy Perry has been subjected to a mountain of backlash when she allegedly "mom-shamed" contestant Sara Beth Liebe for having too many kids at an early age.
Liebe has since left the competition when she voluntarily quit. Bryan has defended her co-judge and dear friend about it.
"It's just the way it is. We've been on set for 12 days and something that happens, you don't even know it's going to potentially become a deal later on," he told People Magazine. "We just have to show up and be ourselves. Nothing about Katy Perry is premeditated and planned and nothing about me is. We have to have the ability to go off the cuff, express emotions."
