After blasting her ex-boyfriend on "Vampire," Olivia Rodrigo seemed to now contemplate talking about her ex despite repeatedly being said that it was a bad idea.
Olivia Rodrigo is set to release "Guts" on Sep. 8, 2023.
Olivia Rodrigo 'Bad Idea Right' Song Explained
Speaking in detail about "bad idea, right," Olivia Rodrigo revealed the origin and the joke behind the song.
"'Bad Idea Right?' started with us making a joke song about me hooking up with an ex-boyfriend, but then we realized we were actually onto something," she told People Magazine. "We were throwing the weirdest things at the wall - in one of choruses there's a part that sounds like an instrument in the background, but it's me gradually screaming louder and louder."
"Bad Idea Right," is the second lead single on Olivia Rodrigo's highly-anticipated album, "Guts." It proceeds her wildly-successful debut album, "Sour."
Inspire by early-'90s B-movie horror-comedy," "Bad Idea Right" chronicled Rodrigo's conflicting mental journey if she would talk to her ex or not, until she found herself sneaking on someone's pickup in the middle of a rainy night.
It featured the music video's director, Petra Collins along Rodrigo's other close friends: Tate McRae, Madison Hu, and Iris Apatow.
"bad idea right? is out everywhere!!!! I had such a fun time making this song with @dan_nigro in nyc last year. we wrote the chorus as a joke but we loved it so much we made it into a full fledged song lol! I had a ball making the music video with my friends @petrafcollins @madisonhu @tatemcrae @irisapatow and I'm so happy it's out in the world. u can listen and watch now!!!!!" Rodrigo said in an Instagram post.
Olivia Rodrigo 'Guts', 'Vampire'
Earlier on Jun. 30, 2023, the album's lead single, "Vampire" was released and it debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making Rodrigo the first artist in chart history to debut each lead single of her first two albums of her career at the top of the charts.
According to Rodrigo, "Vampire" is one of her favorite songs on the album as it felt "very cathartic to finish."
"For me, this album is about growing pains and trying to figure out who I am at this point in my life. I feel like I grew 10 years between the ages of 18 and 20 - it was such an intense period of awkwardness and change. I think that's all just a natural part of growth, and hopefully the album reflects that," she reflected on the album.
