"High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" finally capped off after four amazing seasons on Disney Plus.
After performing "High School Musical 1" in the first season, "Beauty and The Beast" in Season 2, and "Frozen" in Season 3, the East High Drama Club finally capped off with "High School Musical 3" as their final production.
'HSMTMTS' Season 4
Featuring a star-studded reunion of some of the Original Cast Members of the original film franchise, "HSMTMTS" ambitiously tried to recreate the last film of the franchise for their spring musical.
With Ricky Bowen (Joshua Bassett) playing Troy Bolton, Gina Porter (Sofia Wylie) as Gabriella Montez, Kourtney Greene (Dara Renee) and Carlos Rodriguez (Frankie Rodriguez) as Sharpay and Ryan Evans, Ashlyn Moon (Julia Lester) as Kelsi Nielsen, Emmy (Liamani Segura) as Taylor McKessie, and Jet (Adrian Lyles) as Chad Danforth, the group performed many of the songs from the original HSM 3 movie.
While many seemed to want more seasons from the series, showrunner and creator Tim Federle revealed in an interview with People Magazine that he was the one who wanted to cut the series down to four seasons.
"I went to Disney and said, 'Let's wrap now.' They said, 'Okay, we got it. Let's go out on top,'" Federle recalled saying Disney execs. "I shut off the possibility of a fifth season because I didn't want the cast or crew who had put so many years into the show to go away over a hiatus then if we didn't get renewed or now we're in the middle of a strike, it would've really sucked to end on a cliffhanger."
Apparently. Federle gave the script on the show's series finale the day before they actually shot it so the emotions the cast displayed during the filming hit close to the core.
HSMTMTS Supposed To Do 'The Greatest Showman'
In the same interview, Federle revealed that they initially had ideas for a Season 5, should it have happened.
"The one that got away is The Greatest Showman. I really wanted to do Sofia and Josh [as] Zendaya and Zac Efron's [characters]. In my head, Adrian Lyles' Jet would've played Barnum," he told the publication.
While we could not see that thing go into fruition anymore, Federle hinted that a possible spin-off could really well fit in.
"I would totally consider it," he confessed. "It's nothing active. The obvious extension would either be leaping to college, and then it's a different type of series with a different title, or a reunion movie with the series cast. Then I think it's just a matter of how long we wait for that?"
