Demetria Devonne Lovato was born on August 20, 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Lovato was born to a mother who is a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader. The singer/actress has two sisters, of whom the youngest one has also ventured into acting in 2008, as per All Music.

Demi notably struggled in dealing with substance abuse and mental health matters. As such, Lovato has become a long-term spokesperson for anti-bullying and mental health awareness campaigns.

Demi debuted in the entertainment business as an actress. She began her career in acting by starring as a regular cast member of "Barney and Friends." Not too long afterwards, she became a mainstay cast member in the Disney channel, snagging a regular role in the series, "As the Bell Rings."

As Demi has simultaneously ventured into the music industry, she released her debut album, "Don't Forget." This album features songs that were co-written by The Jonas Brothers. This album was released via Hollywood records, a couple of months after the series, "Camp Rock" premiered. "Camp Rock" was a 2008 Disney channel movie that starred Demi and the Jonas siblings.

Simulatenously, Lovato starred in their own Disney series, "Sonny with a Chance" which aired for two seasons.

In 2011, Demi released "Unbroken", a studio album that featured the Toby-Gad produced single, "Skyscraper." The song was a hit, reaching the number ten spot in the Billboard Hot 100 and became certified platinum. The second single off the same album, "Give Your Heart a Break," reached the number 16 spot of the Billboard Hot 100. The song became three times platinum solely in the US.
