Thy Art Is Murder vocalist CJ McMahon left his social media life after getting embroiled in a controversial issue.
McMahon's followers on Instagram were not quite shocked when the singer deactivated or deleted his account soon after he sparked rage over anti-trans content he shared and supported on the platform.
According to Loudwire, he still left a goodbye message as he announced his desire to start an OnlyFans page for non-nude content. He removed his Instagram page afterward.
What Did CJ McMahon Post?
McMahon posted the controversial comment on Monday, August 21, in which he included a video by Matt Walsh - a political commentator - featuring a mother asking a young child about their gender. The matriarch in the clip accepts her child's answer.
As quoted by Lambgoat, the vocalist commented on the video and said that the mother "should be burned to death."
While the post itself has already been deleted after McMahon deactivated his Instagram page, several users were able to capture the post and shared the screenshots on X, formerly Twitter.
"I am going off social media for good," said McMahon. "I will only post band related things on here and will not be contactable. I will start an only fans with my own content and no it will not be nudes or sexual soon."
CJ McMahon Suffered Backlash
Following the emergence of the post, internet users expressed their dismay over the The Art Is Murder vocalist's insensitive comment.
"Just seen a Reddit post about how CJ McMahon from Thy Art Is Murder made a transphobic post that was taken down on Instagram :))" one said. "Please don't let this be true. I'm sick to f------ death of nearly every band being problematic as f--- these days! Is it so hard not to be a c---?!"
"Welp, guess I won't be listening to the new thy art is murder album, and if it ends up being the case that cj's a bigot/ an overall right wing nut," another added. "Then I may not listen to them at all unless they fire him."
McMahon and his representatives have not directly commented on the criticisms yet.
The vocalist left Thy Art Is Murder in 2015 due to financial reasons, saying he could not afford to be in the band. However, he told Hard Noise Podcast that his decision also had something to do with drug addiction.
