Ariana Grande just unveiled the cover art of the upcoming 10th-anniversary edition of her debut album "Yours Truly."
After weeks and weeks of hinting at a live performance to celebrate "Yours Truly," Grande teased the cover art of the upcoming release, reports say.
Without saying it, the "Positions" singer is obviously paying tribute to her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller with the cover art, as it features a still of Grande grinning, taken from her "The Way" music video, featuring Miller.
Despite the sweet gesture and notion that she might very well be honoring her ex-boyfriend who died in 2018 due to an accidental drug overdose, fans felt like the cover art was not representative enough of her debut era.
Some claimed that Grande or her team did not even exert any effort into it; "graphic designers on strike too?" a netizen wrote.
"You have millions of dollars, professional photographers, and choose a blurry photo?"
"Cover of the decade," another mockingly added.
"Not her repurposing a scene from the way mv.... even [Lana Del Rey] covers are better than this-"
There were more negative comments about the cover, with some just flat-out saying: "That's one of the worst album covers I've ever seen."
Ariana Grande Pays Tribute to Mac Miller
On the other hand of all the criticisms about the cover art of the anniversary album, Grande's loyal fans stepped in to explain and brush off the haters.
"If you're complaining about the cover then you're obviously not the target audience this is strictly for the og stans," one wrote.
"People from other fandoms and fetus Arianators calling this ugly... this is for us hags that have been here from the start!!! MIND YOUR F**KING BUSINESS!"
Of course, many pointed out that the still is from "The Way" music video, which she filmed alongside the late rapper.
"If you hate on the cover It shows you don't know Ariana cause the Cover has a huge meaning knowing that the person she looks at like that is Mac Miller."
Ariana Grande, Mac Miller Relationship Timeline
According to reports, Grande and Miller were first linked in November 2012. The rapper replied to a tweet sent out by the singer.
In March 2013, they released their collab song, "The Way," where they even kissed in the music video.
They cemented their relationship several years later in August 2016 before they called it quits in May 2018.
