August 25 seemed to be a very important date for Miley Cyrus as two important milestones in her life happened during that date, and another one is supposed to happen real soon.
Cyrus' fans have been on the roll recently especially after she was highly rumored to be headlining the upcoming 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show in February 2024.
However, some fans think that she would also be gracing the MTV Video Music Awards 2023 for two reasons!
Miley Cyrus August 25 Relevance
In a cryptic promotional photo that Columbia Records shared recently, they shared an outdoor poster of Miley Cyrus piecing together the important milestones of her career.
On August 25, 2013, Miley Cyrus changed the world forever when she twerked with Robin Thicke on the controversial live performance of "Blurred Lines" at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
Cyrus received a mountain of backlash from the music community, fans, and conservatives for her lewd performance on the MTV Stage. She catapulted the infamy of "twerking" and how it launched several conversations and debates as to how artists should behave on television.
The infamous yet iconic moment would perhaps go down as one of the most controversial moments in pop culture in the past few decades. Since then, the perception of Miley Cyrus shifted.
On that same day, Miley Cyrus also released her first No. 1 hit, "Wrecking Ball," which sparked further conversation about her music and her current state.
It was nothing compared to Cyrus's release of the accompanying music video of "Wrecking Bell" weeks after, which featured the then-child star singing nude while atop a singing wrecking ball
Cyrus' growing provocative and scandalized image became a talking point among critics and her young fans.
Lastly, August 25, 2023, would also become another major milestone for Cyrus as she plans to release her newest song "Used To Be Young" later this week. This marks Cyrus' newest song since she released her album, "Endless Summer Vacation" earlier this year.
Miley Cyrus Performing At VMAs, Receiving Video Vanguard?
Cyrus is nominated for five moonmans at the 2023 VMAs, including Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Editing, and Best Cinematography.
As of this writing, only the first round of VMA performers were announced which included Karol G, Demi Lovato, Mäneskin, and Stray Kids.
Fans are rallying online to have Cyrus perform at the VMA, and also to have her receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which Nicki Minaj earned last year. Billboard named her a strong contender to receive it along with Taylor Swift.
