Reneé Rapp says that she has encountered actual mean girls during her stint as Regina George in the "Mean Girls" musical on Broadway, the very show that catapulted her to fame and popularity.

Rapp recently released her debut album, "Snow Angel," and she is currently on the road in promoting it as the production for the "Mean Girls: The Musical" Movie is halted due to the ongoing SAG and WGA strike in Hollywood.

Reneé Rapp Eating Disorder Caused By 'Mean Girls'

Speaking to The Guardian, Reneé Rapp confesses that her eating disorder was exacerbated by the comments she received during her stint as Regina George in the "Mean Girls" musical on Broadway.

After winning the Jimmy Award for Best Performance by an Actress in 2018 opposite Andrew Barth Feldman, Rapp then made her Broadway debut on the Tina Fey produced "Mean Girls" Musical on Broadway.

She was one of the most notable cast replacements for the role of Regina George, previously played by Tony-nominated actress Taylor Louderman in 2018

Rapp then made her television debut on "The Sex Lives of College Girls," but she later exited to focus on her music career.

Explaining to the publication, Rapp explained:

"Eating disorders don't just go away and like, you're healed, like: 'Sorry, I can eat again, ha ha! IIt's a lifelong thing. There are battles with addiction and whatever everywhere. I still struggle with it, but at least my parents know that I've been taken out of environments that were really harmful to my sickness, which is awesome and a huge win. They worry like hell, but they're chilling, I guess."

In fact, her parents had to fly to New York from Charlotte to pull Rapp out of the show.

She confessed that she was called looking "distractingly big," and being asked how she felt about being "a curvy Regina" at the time.

"I was a very mid-size person occupying a space that actually, I don't really think was mine to take," she said of being hailed as a plus-size role model.

Reneé Rapp Returning To Mean Girls?

Rapp is indeed returning to "Mean Girls," but not on Broadway. She was cast alongside Angourie Rice, Auliʻi Cravalho, Bebe Wood, Avantika, and Christopher Brinney, in the movie adaptation of the "Mean Girls: The Musical."

Tina Fey and Tim Meadows will be reprising their roles as Ms. Norbury and Principal Duvall.
