In an attempt to make up for not showing up for his performance at Leeds Festival 2023 on Friday (August 25), rapper Lil Tjay gave a surprise set today (August 26), much to the delight of the attendees.
NME reported that festival-goers were met with a surprising announcement yesterday (August 25) about Lil Tjay's Main Stage West performance - he had yet to show up.
Screens read, "Unfortunately, Lil Tjay hasn't arrived on site, and we haven't been able to contact him. We hope he will arrive soon."
Scheduled between 16:35 - 17:10, many were hoping for his presence, yet unsure of his whereabouts.
At midday on August 26, rapper Lil Tjay made an unexpected appearance at the festival, to the joy of many.
Per the twin festival's official X/Twitter account, "Reading set times for Lil Tjay remain the same." This was undoubtedly a pleasant surprise in comparison to his no-show last time around.
Reading is fortunate to have the opportunity to host a special set by rapper Lil Tjay on Sunday (August 27).
He is slated to play at Main Stage West from 17:10 -17:45.
The first day of the 2023 edition of the iconic event, the renowned Leeds Festival began with an unexpected turn of events when Lil TJay failed to appear for his scheduled slot on stage.
Delighted crowds had been anticipating when Lil TJay graced them with his presence on the Main Stage West at 4:35 pm on Friday.
But sadly, their hopes were dashed when it became apparent that the American rapper, who is 22 years old, was nowhere to be seen at the festival.
Event organizers released a statement with concern, noting that they had not received any communication from Lil Tjay. The spokesperson said: "We regret to inform you that we have been unable to contact him, and we are unsure of what is causing the delay."
The announcement was projected onto large screens near the stage, sending an update to the amassed spectators expecting his performance.
In a direct message to the famous artist, one fan expressed their disappointment: "Really disappointing that you didn't make it to Leeds - lots of people were excited to see you! You should respect your fans more than this - it's unacceptable."
At a time when all eyes were pointed towards Reading & Leeds and their Bank Holiday Festival, Lil Tjay's sudden cancellation of his Leeds headline performance has sent shockwaves throughout.
In an official statement, he apologized to fans, saying he was "too ill" to perform.
He wrote: "I'm so sorry to announce that I can't perform this weekend. I was really excited about coming to Reading & Leeds... Unfortunately, due to illness, my visit had to be cancelled. I hope you all understand, and hopefully, I'll see you soon!"
Organizers of the iconic music festivals Leeds and Readings have expressed their best wishes for a speedy recovery of the rapper.
