"The Idol" is no more.
Page Six can confirm that Lily-Rose Depp's hotly contested HBO Max program will not return for a second season.
Could it be the fault of Blackpink Jennie?
Or Lily-Rose Depp? The Weeknd?
As of this moment, it is hard to tell from the network's very bland statement.
The Idol was one of HBO's most controversial original series, and the network is reporteldy pleased by the enthusiastic viewer response, a spokeswoman said."HBO, the writers, the producers, and the network have decided not to go on with a second season after much thinking and consideration. The network however said that it is appreciative of the artists, actors, and crew for their fantastic effort.
The nudity and wild sex scenes in the scandalous drama, which Sam Levinson of "Euphoria" fame and Depp's co-star Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye co-created, earned it notoriety.
It was also negatively impacted by a Rolling Stone article in which production insiders described a chaotic set and referred to the program as "torture porn" and "rape fantasy."
According to British GQ, it had "the worst sex scene in history."

Depp, 24, co-starred in the film as a damaged pop singer who falls into the hands of Tesfaye's cult leader.
A second season was not anticipated, according to sources who spoke to Page Six in June.
One insider revealed that it was never meant to be a long-running show anyway, because it was supposed only to be a limited series."
'The Idol' definitely delivered on that front,' an HBO Max source said on Monday, adding that "boundary-pushing content is what people look for with HBO original programming. It became ingrained in the zeitgeist and was one of the most talked-about shows of the summer. The insider claimed that a second season was still possible and that the decision to cancel the show had only just been taken.
After director Amy Seimetz left, the show was reduced from six to five episodes, which made news as well. As rumors circulated that he was about to change the series' feminist undertone, Levinson assumed the director's chair.
The series debuted to great excitement at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Working with Tesfaye, 33, in character as Tedros was earlier described as "not an ideal experience... and not one I am eager to repeat" by a show source, and another described him as "egomaniacal" by another.
Depp, on the other hand, has acknowledged that there have been instances when she has "steered clear" of Tesfaye while he is in "his zone." She protested, however, "I love Abel so much. It would be quite challenging for anyone to be able to blend into this position the way he did.
While it is sad that fans cannot see Jennie on the show anymore, they certainly now had a taste of how good she can act - so much so that many are even angry at her portrayal.
Jennie is a natural for the even bigger screen because to her talent and alluring presence. She has already made an impression on viewers with her performance in The Idol, but now it's time for her to focus on the big screen.
According to Forbes, Jennie can take advantage of the chance to play more significant roles in films or possibly more TV if that's what she's most interested in doing. She may solidify her reputation as a versatile and in-demand actress by demonstrating her acting talent in well-known movies.
With her debut album Solo, Jennie made her musical solo debut, marking a significant turning point in her career. Nevertheless, it was a while ago, and this is the ideal time for her to continue developing her solo musical projects. Jennie has the perfect platform thanks to Blackpink's record-breaking popularity and her burgeoning stardom as an actress to score additional successes on her own.
Additionally, since Jennie released Solo, the worldwide music industry has been more open to K-pop soloists, giving Jennie the chance to soar even higher and win recognition on a global scale.
