Aside from the acting, picture, and screenplay categories, the Best Original Song category is one of the most-awaited parts of the annual Academy Awards.
Last year, history was set when "Naatu Naatu" from "RRR" won the award, making it the first song from an Asian film to win in the coveted category.
The 2024 Academy Award for Best Original Song race seemed to be tight like last year, as two tracks from the same album are clearly a front-runner for the same nominee category.
Oscars Best Original Song 2024 Nominee Prediction
Billboard named 10 songs in contention for a nomination in the coveted category.
'I'm Just Ken' & 'What Was I Made For' from 'Barbie'
Two of the clear frontrunners in the said category came from the "Barbie" Movie soundtrack. Billie Eilish singing and songwriting the song "What Was I Made For" along with her brother FINNEAS might be a shoo-in for Academy voters since they already won the said category in 2021.
Meanwhile, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who took home the award for "Shallow" in 2018, are a strong force to be reckoned with for Ryan Gosling's show-stopping yearning anthem, "I'm Just Ken."
'For The First Time' from 'The Little Mermaid'
Alan Menken and Lin Manuel Miranda's team-up for "For The First Time" is a huge deal for both of them. Should the Halle Bailey-sung record be nominated, this would be the fifth consecutive decade that Menken would be nominated for this category, and should the song be nominated and eventually win, it would give Miranda his EGOT.
'The Fire Inside' from 'Flamin' Hot'
Diane Warren has yet to win her Oscar for Best Original Song. If this track gets nominated, it would be her seventh consecutive year to be nominated and her 11th nomination in total. If she finally wins this year, she will finally earn her long-overdue Oscar.
'Joan, Still Theme' from 'Theater Camp'
The theme song of the fictional production of "Joan, Still" is named as one of the front runners for the said category. If this would be nominated and eventually win the award, it would make Ben Platt an EGOT winner.
Among the other front-runners for the said category are "Peaches" from "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," "Road to Freedom" from "Rustin," "Love Again" from "Love Again," "High Life" from "Flora and Son," and "Dear Allen (Who Made Art in Heaven)" from "Asteroid City."
Last year, only five songs were only nominated. Who do you think would be nominated for this year?
