Miley Cyrus just released her new single "Used to be Young" and it's an anthem for those who love looking back at memories that one's self-made over the past years. The musician is taking a trip down memory lane too as she recently shared her thoughts on her controversial magazine cover.
According to Billboard, the "Can't Be Tamed" hitmaker appeared in the cover of Vanity Fair Magazine in 2008. In some photos, the singer was alone, but there were also snaps where she posed along with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.
One of the portraits taken by photographer Annie Leibovitz became controversial as Miley Cyrus was only 15 years old at the time but she was topless and a blanket was the only thing that covered her chest. Her back was exposed as she looked into the camera with a serious expression on her face.
Per the outlet, the "Adore You" songstress was still playing the role of Hannah Montana on the popular Disney series of the same name in 2008.
Ever since the photo was released to the public at the time, Cyrus, the photographer, and Disney issued a statement regarding the issue.
Miley Cyrus Reacts to 2008 Topless Magazine Cover
In a video series posted on her official TikTok account, Miley Cyrus looks back at some of the most notable moments of her career over the past 20 years.
Recalling what happened during the day of the photoshoot, the singer said her little sister, Noah Cyrus, was sitting on the photographer's lap and she was the one pushing the button to take pictures.
Her family members were also present on the set and the "Black Mirror" actress noted that it was her first time wearing a red lipstick.

The reason why she switched up her beauty routine was "because Pati Dubroff, who did my makeup, thought that that would be another element that would divide me from Hannah Montana."
She added that the red lipstick element was a brilliant choice to separate herself from her Hannah Montana persona.
Miley Cyrus Initially Apologized But Takes it Back
At the time when the photo was released, Miley Cyrus apologized, saying she took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be artistic, but she later felt so embarrassed.
However, 10 years later, she took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to take back her apology and share the newspaper with the headline "Miley's Shame."
"IM NOT SORRY F*** YOU #10YearsAgo," she wrote.
