Music legend Jimmy Buffett has died after a clandestine, multi-year battle with skin cancer, according to insiders.
Could his lifestyle been the real culprit?
At the age of 76, the singer-songwriter departed from this life on Friday night.
Four years before he passed away, TMZ was notified by an insider that he had been diagnosed with skin cancer, but it proved out to be lymphoma.
"He lived his life in the sun, both literally and figuratively," they continued, noting that Buffett had begun hospice care on Monday.
According to sources, the Grammy nominee's declining health prompted friends and family to come together in support of him, and last week, his friend Paul McCartney visited him at home and sang to him.
The 76-year-old typified beach-bum escapism with his hit song "Margaritaville," which glorified lazy days and helped build a billion-dollar business empire around it.
With his pets, friends, family, and music by his side, Jimmy Buffett passed away quietly on September 1st, according to a statement posted on his official website and social media accounts.
"He lived his life like a song until the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many people," the statement reads.
Wife Jane Slagsvol, son Cameron, and daughters Savannah and Sarah survive the icon.

Though condolences have been sent from all corners of society, from Hollywood actor Miles Teller, who shared pictures of himself with Buffett, to former US Senator Doug Jones of Alabama, who posted on X, the former Twitter, expressing grief over Buffett's passing and saying that he "lived life to the fullest and the world will miss him," remarks have been made.
Calling him a "poet of paradise," President Biden said in a statement released to the public on Saturday that he "was an American music icon who inspired generations to step back and find the joy in life and in one another."
The 76-year-old had shown signs of deteriorating health in recent months, which grieved followers worldwide when they learned of the news. Buffett recently revealed on social media that he was hospitalized, but he did not disclose any additional details. Buffett had to cancel his May shows due to sickness.
Buffett was a known small-time marijuana smuggler in Key West, with humble beginnings. His vast business empire was built on his soft rock with a Caribbean touch, which emphasized the Florida Keys, sunlight, and nightlife.
He became known for creating a carefree, subtropical party vibe, and his devoted fan base, known as ParrotHeads, frequented his events, eateries, and resorts.
At the time of his passing, Buffett's net worth was $1 billion, according to Forbes. Released on February 14, 1977, his classic song "Margaritaville" quickly acquired popularity and became a mentality for those who were "wasting away" and a rationale for a life of seclusion and fun for those who were "growing older, but not up."
The song is a slow-motion depiction of a loafer watching tourists lounge on his front porch as a pot of shrimp is about to boil. The musician is reportedly not feeling well, regrets a previous relationship, and recently got a new tattoo. Somewhere there's a misplaced salt shaker.
